Come on Mark. I am waiting for the Viagra  advertisements. You know that Viagra and boats go hand in hand. Or wood and boats. LOL.  ;D

they are nearly impossible to get rid of....I've had some luck with IP banning, but none of that stuff is rocket science to get around....

SMF seems to be more prone to them lately... I was getting a rash of them on my vB forum for a while, now it's down to one a day...

Some spammers watch a site to post, but most posting is done by spambots that scour the net looking for sites to post it's garbage. One way to eliminate that is to require a new member to go through an "Image Verification" process to join a forum. By entering a set of numbers/letters that needs to be understood by an actual human, spambots are shut out. Another site I visit uses this feature and has no problems with unwanted spammers. They use vBulletin Version 3.5.4. Hope that helps.

I run image verification....aggressive spammers actually use real people to get thru those....figger yer payin some barefoot kid in India a penny everytime they type in those characters or reply to the activation email.

I use image verification for all registrations and require the register reply to an activation email.....they still show up.  I've done some mass email domain bans as well as some IP bans, but since my site has a worldwide userbase, the risk is there for blocking someone legitimate.
