Boating alternative to Fratello's
« on: August 14, 2006, 04:05:57 AM »
;D Looking for someplace to tie up and have a fun cocktail and some good food and music?  Give the Park Plaza a try.  Pulling up on Saturday in the wind was not going to be fun, but low and behold...Help was on the way, talk about service ;D.  Walk up window service and some tasty tropical drinks followed, a two piece band played in the background as we enjoyed conversation and the sun.  Food was awesome, chef is from the old Pioneer, servings were large and the waiter doted on our table...All in all a great afternoon...Give this place a try, sure you will enjoy it. ;D

Went to a new place last night called "Schuler's Shack".  It's on the east shore of Winnebago about half way between the Harbor Bar and High Cliff at the end of Faro Springs Road.  For all of you from the west side of the lake it's certainly out of the way but would be worth the trip.  Food was great (not your basic burger or deep fried stuff you get at the Harbor Bar) and they have a nice selection of sandwiches, ribs, fish, salads and steak.  The Wednesday night special is ribs and they smelled awesome.  The outside dining is in a screened in porch so you don't have to put up with the bugs and the prices I thought were reasonable.  The only drawbacks are that there is only parking for four boats and you need the lake to be calm or have a easterly breeze because there is no protection from the lake.

Last weekend we went to Schmitty's Oar House in Fondy. Good food and service and reasonable prices. Had the Blue cheese burger and the Crunchy stuffed olives. Yummy! ;D

The docks were in good shape and maybe, 40'-50' long. There are pics of the docks in their photo gallery
CAUTION! The lake right off the mouth of the creek seems to be quite shallow. I would say under 5'. So you guys with the big yachts would need to be carefull. ;) Maybe anchor off in the lake and ride in with one of us small fry. :D

"Seems shallow" is an understatement.  If you go down the center (which common sense would dictate) you'll get stuck - if your drive is down.  Go to the LEFT of center and you'll have more water not much though.  We took our 262cr down there this year, won't be back again unless they either dredge it or mark it better.  They do have good food and the olives kick a$$ but it's not worth a set of props.
